Special Report: Final Day Presentations

On the last day of camp, many classes hold open presentations during which campers can show what they've accomplished over the last twelve days. We'll update the blog whenever there's a new presentation, so be sure to check on this post from time to time.

Code-breaking Open House. The cryptography class invited the rest of camp to stop by and learn about the cyphers and code-breaking skills they've been cultivating all session. Students set up small stations around the room where visiting campers could learn about the Caesar cypher, which involves concentric alphabet wheels, the masonic cypher, based on an original grid of shapes and letters, and the Vigenere cypher, which requires a codeword to break.

Learning how to keep secrets.

Folklore Festival: Tedra Thompson's folklore class demonstrated the storytelling abilities they've been working on. Campers took turns taking on different storytelling roles. The role they played affected the type of story they told, as a "literary teller" had a different storytelling style than a "folklorist."

Installations: "Courtesy of the Common Circle" showed off the three dimensional constructs they've been working on this week, demonstrating their ability to use simple circles to build larger structures of tessellating shapes.

A work in progress.

Historic Film: Galen Wilson's "American History through Movies" class presented the fruits of their labors: short films about important moments in U.S. history, including the assassination of Andrew Garfield and the passing of Title IX. Each camper gave their film a short introduction explaining why they chose this moment in history and what they hope their film accomplished.

Animation Showcase: The animation class held an open house to let the students show everyone their programming projects, which including a cartoon airplane game, a dance simulator, a maze solving game, and a short fairy tale movie.

Game Time: Michael Farabaugh's "Jumping into Jeopardy" class invited counselors on stage to compete in a Jeopardy style game for the amusement of the other campers. All questions were devised by campers over the course of the session. The categories: American Authors, SEP, European History, Board Games, #1 songs, and Foreign words and Phrases
